We chatted with the designer lustry Edward van Vliet | sleep on nature
Edward van Vliet, one of the "coolest" designers of the moment, in addition to the interior of the store of Barcelona, has created several pieces of furniture for COCO-MAT, lustry including the entire Phoenix Collection. Eclectic designs that blend styles from different cultures and an industrial process that combines tradition, high technology and the use of natural materials. We leave an interview so that you may know him better.
- What was the starting point? There was a need to innovate with the furniture, and in turn meet the concepts of hotel furniture such as beds, sofas and all kinds of small parts. I designed some suitable for both home to hotels collections.
My starting point was based on the collections should be innovative but always faithful to the current collection. And of course, all designed to be manufactured according to company philosophy, natural materials and sustainable production. lustry
- How do you like to sleep? Much or little time you sleep? / Heavy or light sleep? I really love the space and light, and even more around the room if there are treasures of art collected in exotic travel. No dark curtains and awakening with sunlight. I'm a sleeper, I sleep a long time and certainly more now since I got my bed COCO-MAT.
- What does sustainability and natural materials for you? I believe that sustainability is very important. Usually visit the botanical gardens in Amsterdam because I love plants and the green of the environment as quiet. I think there are many ways to be sustainable and that the use of natural materials is one of them.
- Does the fact that everything lustry has to be natural complicates the design or the opposite? No complicated the design lustry process but that marks a "limit" which is easy to work. The use of certain materials contributes to the final shape, but as I like to think of solutions, not feel like a restriction or an inconvenience. I always try to give the designs a timeless feel, so they last a long time.
